Understanding deposits and payment holds
Why a deposit can appear as pending and what happens after return.
Quick answer
A security deposit is an authorization hold, not a charge, unless eligible late fees or claim amounts are captured.
What a payment hold means
A hold reserves part of your available card balance without transferring the money to Nerbor or the owner. It may appear as pending in your bank account.
The deposit amount is shown before checkout and is not taxed.
When the deposit is authorized
Nerbor places the security deposit hold on the first day of the rental. Some banks may request additional verification before authorizing it.
What happens after return
- 1
Return recorded
The renter marks the item returned and the owner reviews it.
- 2
Eligible amounts settle
Late fees or approved claims may be captured from the hold.
- 3
Remaining hold released
Unused funds return to the renter’s available balance.
How release timing appears
A release may not look like a refund
Because a hold is not a completed charge, it may simply disappear from pending activity. Your bank controls how quickly available balance updates.
